RCARC, INC. CONDUCTS 8TH ANNUAL FIELD DAY On June 24th and June 25th the Russell County Amateur Radio Club, Inc. (RCARC, Inc.) held it’s 8th annual Field Day event on Horton Ridge. Field Day is an annual event held on the fourth weekend of June by amateur radio operators throughout North America to sharpen their emergency communication skills. Ham from Russell, Dickenson, Tazewell, Washington and Wise counties attended the event. Hundreds of amateurs from all over the world were contacted during the 24hour event. “This event is a great opportunity to use our equipment and skills that we would use during a disaster. We need to continuously train and update our equipment inventory to stay prepared for that inevitable time when we’re needed. If we can’t communicate within the county and/or outside the county during a disaster then we’ll be facing total chaos and that’s what we’re here for”, says RCARC, Inc. President Al Keen. RCARC, Inc. members look forward to this event a little more than most others because it is one of the best opportunities to showcase what amateur radio is all about. “Field Day can really show how we can help, even save lives, during a disaster”, says JamieCombs, RCARC, Inc. Secretary/P.R. Manager. Soon the club will be completing construction of it’s repeater system located in Hansonville. Details will be included in a future article.
